Our speaker was Kevin Webb from Maine’s Uncle Henry’s, the place for regular people to buy and sell their “stuff.” The goal of the former hardcopy handout, now multi-media marketing enterprise, is to provide an outlet for private, non-commercial sellers. Uncle Henry’s staff works hard at ensuring a level playing field by excluding, as best they can, any businesses from getting the cheaper advertising rates offered by their publications. He also noted their constant effort to keep spam and malware from their product.
Uncle Henry’s has continued with the hardcover publication we are so familiar with but has added web sites, mobile apps, and are exploring all the new opportunities our communication technologies now provide.
Kevin noted that they face competition from newspapers, craigslist, and a host of specialty marketeers in autos, jobs, and real estate.
It was announced that a Donations Committee meeting has been scheduled for June 16 at 11:30am at the Senator (prior to the regular weekly meeting).
